Briefing

Belly and Sag Detection explained.

A sewer line should slope steadily to the street. If soil settles, or the pipe was bedded poorly, a section can sag, creating a belly that always holds water. Solids settle there, clogs form and the same spot clogs again and again.

On camera, a belly shows as standing water where the pipe should be dry. We note how long it is and how deep, trace it to the surface and help you decide whether it is a monitor-and-clean item or one for repair.

Questions

Belly & Sag Detection FAQ.

Is a belly always a problem?

A small belly can be tolerable with maintenance. A large one will keep clogging and may need repair.

Can a belly fix itself?

No. Soil that has settled does not return. Cleaning helps but does not change the slope.

Can a belly be repaired without digging the whole line?

Often a section can be excavated or replaced. The footage shows how long the section is.
